Sarah Beasley

Aontú

I have a track record of actually doing the work. I've been on the ground for the last 5 years voluntarily, working with many communities. I do all I can to help the underprivileged and the addicted as well as the animals. People are important to me and what is their concern is my priority ALWAYS

Priorities

  • Housing

Pressure needs to be placed on the LCCC to open up vacant properties as a matter of urgency. An actual Housing List should exist too for transparency

  • Health

An addiction Centre for Limerick is vital. We need to be able to help people off the streets and into a place of help. Otherwise nothing will change

  • Other

Animal Welfare. We need to have an ISPCA inspector for Limerick. It is inexcusable that we cannot protect our animals properly due to scaremongering

The Council should increase the percentage of social and affordable housing in all new developments
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "We must consult communities when any new builds happen. A student village in the middle of a residential area was recently purchased for over €5m of the asking price to buy up the phase. This was earmarked as affordable housing. How will our children get on the ladder with housing?"

- Sarah Beasley

Housing
5 of 21 questions
If someone refuses an offer of social housing, they should be put to the back of the waiting list
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "We have to take into account an offer being unrealistic. This leads to a transfer request that puts further pressure on the allocation team. I am happy to see that there is more choice in the areas around the city and county. Homeless families in particular can be allocated an unsuitable property"

Too many bike lanes are being built in Limerick
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "There has not been enough consideration around the infrastructure for cycle lanes and the existing ones. Take the Dutch model for example. They are a country that will fit into Ireland more than twice with 4 times the population and yet have a perfect model. If we do it, we must do it right."

The new 30km/h speed limit in Limerick city centre should be extended to more urban areas
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "Speed ramps are obviously not enough of a deterrent in many areas and cost much to upkeep so reducing speed limits and perhaps chicanes are viable options. We have to protect our young and our vulnerable. Is it REALLY too much to ask to drop the speed instead of our foot?"

- Sarah Beasley

The development of new private hospitals in Limerick will undermine the public health services and should be opposed
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "Why would it? Those who can avail of a faster service will be able to which will in turn alleviate the pressure on the UHL. If people want to actually get what they pay for, then why oppose that? Currently, if you are private, not much changes."

- Sarah Beasley

Law & order
16 of 21 questions
The Council should be more willing to evict local authority tenants who engage in anti-social behaviour
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
Comment: "As appealing as this may sound to some, where will they go? This will just exacerbate the whole homeless and crime situation. Anti-social behaviour here is not defined. • Agree

- Sarah Beasley

Environment & energy
19 of 21 questions
It would be good for the region if the Shannon liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal went ahead
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree

- Sarah Beasley

Limerick should accommodate a proportionate share of the asylum seekers who come to Ireland
  • Agree
  • Neither agree nor disagree
  • Disagree
  • No opinion
